Parents 'would buy property' to get kids in school Published: 02/09/2008

A third of UK parents would move home in order to get their children into a good school, new research reveals.
A study by Sheilas' Wheels home insurance found that 18 per cent of parents feel they will miss out on a place at their first choice school because of where they live.
A further seven per cent will not be getting a place in their first three school choices, causing some parents to take drastic measures.
Around five per cent of parents with children aged between four and 16 said they would consider purchasing another property in a better catchment area for a better school.
Commenting on the research, Jacky Brown at Sheilas' Wheels said: "Our research reveals that parents would rather move house and resort to other extreme measures, rather than appeal for their child to attend their first choice of school.
"Given the number of children who will struggle to gain a place at their preferred school, it's surprising that more parents aren't prepared to fight the decision."
